My name is Samantha Branham and I am currently a senior in the College of Nursing at the University of Cincinnati. I graduated with honors from Avon High School in Avon, Indiana in May of 2016, and I was accepted as a direct admit into the BSN program at UC as part of the class of 2020. I hope to go back to school after completing my undergraduate degree to become a nurse practitioner with a speciality in neonatology or family/women's health.
Since I was a child, I've had many health problems including severe food allergies and asthma. Spending a lot of time in doctor's offices helped me to really appreciate the work nurses do. The nurses I came in contact with were nearly always some of the kindest, most compassionate people I had ever met, and I would like to be that kind of person for someone else one day.
I am very close with my family. I have three younger siblings and I want to work hard to make them proud. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking and listening to music and I love visiting art museums when I have the time. I also volunteer frequently. As a Bearcat Buddy at UC, I get the wonderful opportunity to work with elementary school students within the Cincinnati Public School district. I have also participated in various other community service projects, including ushering at the Cincinnati Children's Theater and volunteering at Good Samaritan Hospital in Endoscopy, the Outpatient Treatment Center, and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
I truly love to learn, especially about the health sciences, and I am excited to have the privilege to do so at UC. I want to strive to learn as much as possible so that I can make a difference in other people's lives, whether through community service or as a health professional. Through the honors program, I hope to expand my learning to gain a more well-rounded education.
